Kinoshita-Kabuki’s first appearance at Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre Playhouse! The culmination of a Kinoshita-Kabuki/Kunio Sugihara collaboration. A whirlwind, five-hour entertainment epic finally comes to the big stage!

Kinoshita-Kabuki's "Sannin Kichisa" is being performed again for the first time in nine years! This representative work, which premiered in 2014 and was chosen as one of the best five plays in the first half of 2015 Yomiuri Theater Awards when it was performed again (Gekijyo Eyes), has been renamed "Sannin Kichisa Kuruwa no Hatsugai" and will be performed on the big stage with a new cast.
A striking ensemble drama that dynamically intertwines the "Three Kichisaburo" - a priest, a monk, and a young lady - young men at the mercy of a strange fate, and the "love between a merchant and a courtesan" that has been cut from the current Kabuki production. This is the only version in which you can see the entirety of the now-defunct original version of this masterpiece by legendary Kabuki playwright Mokuami Kawatake, who has also been described as "the Shakespeare of our time" (© Tsubouchi Shoyo).
Written during the upheaval of the late Edo period, this story that continues to be loved today strikes a chord with modern times, which are also marked by change and upheaval. This is the definitive version of "Sannin Kichisa" by Kinoshita-Kabuki!
