First Tokyo performance of the masterpiece by Kinoshita-Kabuki × Kunio Sugihara

This year’s festival features Kinoshita-Kabuki’s version of the famous Kabuki work “Kanjincho,” which the group first performed in 2010 and which it reworked and performed in Paris to great acclaim in 2016. “Kanjincho” is a tale of loyalty depicting the attempt by samurai Yoshitsune and his band to cross a hostile checkpoint. This boldly reconstructed masterwork which broke all preconceived notions is finally being performed in Tokyo. This production sees the return of an entertaining yet intense drama where the “boundaries” encompassing modern society intersect.
Benkei and Yoshitsune - characters who cross all sorts of borderlines.
Witness the return of a fusion work that flits between Kabuki and contemporary drama.
